The SHG Approach is a process designed to lead to the empowerment of people. The institution is supported by three solid pillars – Social, Economic and Political empowerment. All three of these objectives are required to enable the poorest people to claim and realise their rights as human beings, citizens and as equal participants in civil society. Social empowerment • Changed the attitude of woman and empowered towards believing their potential • Enhanced cohesion, mutual understanding, conflict solving among women and families • Build trust and cooperation between women • Reduced tribalism and increased unity in community development • Enhanced equal status, participation and decision making power at household level Economic empowerment • Enhanced standard of living for very poor women as a result established new businesses which increased women’s incomes • Improve employment opportunities and income generation opportunity • Reduced vulnerability to crisis situations like famine, death/accident in the family. • Improved access to livelihood related services – credit, market etc • Greater access to financial resources outside the household Political empowerment • Independence and involvement • CLA are claiming their rights of involvement and betterment of their communities and become member of their district or village committees (become member of security, development, health, education committees). • Some community facilitators have become head of district or village During the reporting period to maximize the impact of the programme and achieve the desired objective for the long term a range of activities have been implemented including the following:
